Our modern systems of living are reaching some kind of peak of insanity. We know the tragedy of it—we live our lives amongst the ecological wreckage.

Humans were never meant to function this way. Our origins are different, and we carry the original ways in our hearts.

We are not a disease upon the planet, but a people who have found themselves in a systemic trap, caught in a vortex of unhealthy cultural evolution.

The dominant cultures of this world are not without beauty but they are fundamentally extractivist and violent toward life on Earth, including human life.

This needs to be understood: our modern ways are not just hard on, violent toward, the more-than-human web of life. They are hard on us too. We live in anti-human societies, even as we are offered unprecedented comforts.

Let out the humans offers short essays on the practice of cultural awareness and sovereignty. And how to use the freedom gained to craft a more human life in wild times.

Let out the humans contains three types of essays:

Core concepts—these are likely to be denser, more abstract, but contain some of the grounding philosophical perspective that the publication is based on. These ideas enable and empower the practices we advocate here, which in turn make for useful direction in wild times.

(Note: some originate from early beginnings, when the blog was not certain of its own purpose and direction, so may not be obvious how they belong...take whatever value you find there!)

Culture in practice—This is where we attempt to bring a practice of cultural awareness and sovereignty to life as a way to help us all live better, more human, more meaningful lives. Where cultural philosophy gets practical.

Moments in the worldthese arise from those fleeting experiences that somehow feel significant, surprising, salient, or just plain beautiful. Yours to interpret as you will. Made with love for this world and all its creatures and complexities.

Let out the humans is a publication from We Are Humans Project, a social enterprise on Muwinina country in Lutruwita/Tasmania.
