Let out the humans is open to submissions from fellow humans who care about this subject.

You can send either a pitch, or a finished piece.

Pitches are more appropriate if you would like to contribute a series of short essays. Let me know what you are thinking, how it fits with this publication, your intended angle and emphasis, and include a short example of your writing.

Finished pieces are welcome, provided they already fit well with the publication and are within the word limit—between 800 and 1500 words, roughly speaking.

What is a good fit?

Ideally, your piece will centre around an insight into Western culture, its assumptions and norms, that is not necessarily obvious but genuinely useful for people to see clearly. As you'll know from reading this blog, it will be about living more human, resilient lives, and adapting to changes in the world, in a way that makes our lives better. Your insight will help people move in this direction.

You can have spiky opinions, but make them elegant and most importantly, generous to other humans. Think broadly and compassionately, and connect your thoughts to this time, the place you live, and the life around you.

What should you expect from submitting?

Please understand if I don't accept it. Not being aligned with this publication is not a reflection on you.

If I do accept, your submission will be subject to editing, though I'll send you the edited piece before publication. I'll be as sensitive as possible, but remember the goal is to do as little back-and-forth as possible. That's part of being professional as a writer.

I can't offer payment, but you are welcome to include links with your author bio, to enable cross-promotion.

It may take some time for me to reply. Please be patient. We are a very small team and have a lot of work on our hands. If you haven't heard back within 30 days, feel free to enquire.

Thank you for your interest.
